NEW YEAR, NEW YOU?

By Jessica Sheheen

If you’re anything like me, contemplating New Year’s resolutions probably gives you a little tinge of anxiety. “New Year, New You.” Isn’t that the saying? Maybe you’ll resolve to lose that extra 15 pounds you gained during COVID; or maybe it’s time to finally stop smoking, or dare I say, do away with that nightly glass of wine after a long, stressful day? Whatever your 2023 goals, here are a few things we’ve learned over the years about setting yourself up for success.

One. Spend some time reflecting on which changes are most important to you and start by picking ONE thing. Often, the reason we fail is because changing too many things at one time is simply unrealistic. When you experience success with one change, add something else. Use the momentum of positivity to stay motivated!

Two. Come up with a plan. Remember, a goal without a plan is merely a dream. Researching your resolution or goal will help you prepare for the change and get you excited about starting. Find a blogger to follow, listen to a podcast on the way to and from work, talk to other people who have had success and find the approach that will work best for your lifestyle. Set a start date and GO!

Three. Track your progress. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing how far you’ve come! Take pictures, document the changes, write down how you’re feeling and, most importantly, REWARD yourself for progress!

Four. Accept that there will be failure along the way and don’t let it derail your plan. If you mess up, give yourself some grace and get back on track. No one is perfect! Wipe the slate clean and start again.

We hope your 2023 is filled with happiness, health, and success!
