Hometown Hero: Jeffery (Odis) Hoyle

By Rebecca E. Cousins Smith

What can be said about Jeffery (Odis) Hoyle? Well, there are actually a lot of amazing things to be said about this man. He is generous to a fault; he would give you the shirt off of his back even if it were the last possession he had. He keeps water and treats out all over Main St. for dogs being walked, so they stay hydrated and happy. He volunteers at the Opera House, Wightman United Methodist Church in Prosperity, and Central United Methodist Church doing anything he can to help. He was putting feeders for birds and hummingbirds out around town but sadly had to take them down. During the fall, he went down the sidewalks of Main St and vacuumed up the leaves with a shredder to keep downtown looking nice. He paid for the gas himself and asked no one for any help. He never meets a stranger and has interesting stories to tell. He has had some hard knocks in life but still always has a smile on his face, a positive outlook on life, and an undying love for his fellow man and country.
