BALLIN FOR BRUCE 2022!

Our 3rd Annual Basketball Tournament is scheduled for October 15, 2022, at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Newberry. The church has again graciously donated its gym for the event. The event is free to the public and will include performances by Vision Elite Royalty Dance Company, music provided by DJ Humble Dexxx, refreshments, prizes, and so much more.

The basketball tournament was founded by Lisa Smith in loving memory of her son Bruce Dequan Garrison, a native of Newberry, who loved the game of basketball. Bruce was a 2000 graduate of Newberry High School. He passed away on October 16, 2015, and from that tragedy, Bruce’s legacy began through the gift of life through the process of organ transplantation. Bruce had a special love for his family and community, so we feel this is an opportunity to bring the community together and provide a deserving student with a scholarship to assist with their future education expenses. Through the support and generosity of our event sponsors, we will present a 2023 high school student with the Bruce DeQuan Garrison Memorial Scholarship in May 2023. Bruce never got the opportunity to continue his studies at Piedmont Technical College, so this memorial scholarship is another way to continue his legacy and bring the community together for a friendly game of basketball and support the youth in our community.
