There’s nothing like the aroma of barbecue drifting down the streets of downtown Newberry in the spring. That’s right – the City of Newberry’s annual Pork in the Park event will be here Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22.
On Friday from 5-8 p.m., visitors can enjoy barbecue dinners and live music, then return Saturday morning for the competition from 11 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. to take in the full experience. Once again, this event is sanctioned by the Southern Barbecue Network, making the competition tougher and the prize more rewarding to competitors.
Friday night’s entertainment features John Emil slide guitarist, making a return appearance to the event.
The competition surrounds Memorial Park in Downtown Newberry and teams will compete in three different categories – Boston butt, chicken and ribs. Prizes will go to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of each category, a Grand Champion of all three categories will be selected. A Grand Reserved Champion will also be named. Winners receive a cash prize and a trophy. Winners of the competition will be announced at approximately 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, April 22 from the music stage in Memorial Park.
Saturday’s event will also feature live bluegrass featuring, Bluegrass Remedy and free kid’s inflatable fun.
The Blood Connection will be on site Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. To make an appointment, guests can visit thebloodconnection.org or use the link: https://tinyurl.com/4ss4294a.
